Dakota County, MN

An effort is underway to persuade our Dakota County Board of Commissioners to take some modest steps to make our libraries more child-safe. An email was sent to each commissioner, supported by over 100 signatures from all over the county urging the Board to take up this issue and move materials out of the children's section that are not age-appropriate. Some of the Board have been supportive while others are looking for excuses to bury the issue. One such excuse is that the author of the letter wasn't from their District. For that reason, we are asking like-minded people to call their own commissioner, after getting up to speed on the issue. Please be respectful and yet insistent that this get taken up.

To get your commissioners phone number and email, please go to https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/Government/Board and click your District number on the left. If you are unsure of which district you live in, ask a friend or go to https://gis.co.dakota.mn.us/DCGIS/ then click on the word Search and put in your street address. After the interactive map updates to show your home, you will need to zoom out until the name of your District appears. (It's not the most user-friendly map, but its all they've got.)

You may need to leave a message but if you get through, please send a summary of your conversation to us below.
